Vessel Operator - USV

We are currently seeking a USV Operator to support critical testing and sea trials of a new defence maritime program for 6 - 8 weeks in Darwin, NT.
This opportunity will be suitable for experienced and qualified coxswains to participate in testing and operations of a new fast, 12m Uncrewed Surface Vessel for the RAN.

If you have a background as a watchkeeper / coxswain operating small commercial vessels or in an RAN environment, apply now. As you will be operating on a naval defence base, a minimum Baseline clearance or above is required for access to site.
Contract timeframe to be finalised but likely from the start of September to the end of November pending approvals.

Due to the nature of this project candidates will be required to work overtime hours outside the standard 80 hour fortnight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate USV’s to high safety standards
  • Monitoring and actioning Navy tasking orders
  • Maintaining accurate USV operations logbooks
  • Reviewing operational risk assessments
  • Coordinate with the USV’s technicians and engineering teams to ensure safe and effective operations
  • Support USV testing and commission activities
  • Support launch and recovery of the vessel
  • Support pack up and set up of the vessel
  • Carry out general maintenance of the vessel within the skillset of the individual
  • Working from heights within the skillset of the individual and accordance with working at height permits (or similar)
  • Lifting of heavy equipment within safe lifting techniques and loads

Prerequisites:

  • Coxswain Certificate of Competency Grade 1 or 2
  • NC1 or above coastal certificate
  • Experience operating small commercial/naval vessels
  • USV operations and USV Operator Course / Certification highly desirable
  • Naval testing and operation experience
  • Strong understanding of AMSA regulations and Marine Safety protocols
  • Ability to travel interstate on ad-hoc requirement
  • Ability to commit to a 24/7 roster
  • Baseline Defence clearance or above level (essential)
